After departing the Yardbirds, the rocker went on to form John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. In the following years, Clapton worked with Cream, which was known for improvised blues and “arty pop,” before joining Blind Faith in 1969 and later collaborating with Derek and the Dominoes in the 1980s. Clapton collaborated with this last ensemble on the popular song “Layla.” It was written by Clapton.
George Harrison’s Friendship
By the late 1960s, however, Clapton had made the acquaintance of George Harrison, the lead guitarist for the Beatles. During the Beatles’ 1968 album “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” Clapton even played a guitar solo on the song “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” which was written by George Harrison. This was something he would do several times during his career.
