In 1982, Mickey Rourke made his comedy debut in the film Diner. Though it didn’t entirely break new ground, his acting ability and ability to discuss the controversial subject matter in his positions propelled him to stardom in 1986’s 912Weeks and 1987’s Angel Core. Though mild by today’s standards, these films cemented his status as a sex icon alongside co-stars Kim Basinger and Lisa Bonet. On the other hand, Rourke realized that he’d had enough of acting and turned to box in 1991. When he was younger, he had practiced as a fighter. His boxing career was short-lived, lasting just three years.

When Rourke returned to acting after a career in boxing in the 1990s, he landed a few small parts. His fantastic skill encouraged him to work tirelessly, frequently playing misfits and misguided tough guys, despite his face being badly bruised from his time on the fight scene. Rourke didn’t have another significant supporting appearance until 2005’s Sin City. His success in The Wrestler won him a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Oscar nomination in 2009. He’s had a lot of cosmetic surgeries over the years and, as a result, is a handsome older guy.
