Dr. Leslie Winkle was, in many ways, a female version of Leonard S. Cayce. She even sported a zip-up jacket and sunglasses in a similar style to the actor. Leslie and Leonard were in a relationship on and off for a while, and she also had a brief romance with Howard. Sheldon was a target of her true enmity on numerous occasions.

Sara Gilbert got her start on Roseanne as Darlene Conner, which is where she acquired her name. She was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance in the role. Gilbert went on to play Leslie Winkle on the hit television show The Big Bang Theory. Gilbert was formerly married to Linda Perry, who died in 2019.
