Lory Del Santo
It was in October 1985 that Clapton performed a couple of shows in the Italian city of Milan. While in Italy, the musician met and allegedly fell in love with Lory Del Santo, an Italian woman, whom he met while on tour. The fact that he was married didn’t appear to bother them, and they eventually started dating, according to sources. Because of a variety of factors, Boyd’s heart was broken by the pregnancy that resulted from this relationship.

Boyd Was Devastated
Boyd, as you may know, has been attempting to conceive for quite some time. Boyd and Clapton had even tried to conceive at an IVF clinic, but had been unsuccessful. It appeared as though Boyd was going through a succession of miscarriages. Clapton broke the news to Boyd that Del Santo was expecting a child, and she was visibly upset. “[She] felt] like [her] heart was about to disintegrate,” according to Clapton’s biographer Philip Norman.
